Easy Eco-Friendly Swap Sunday – Hand Sanitiser

Hand Sanitiser Blog Post

Happy Easy Eco-Friendly Swap Sunday! Last time we shared with you our favourite multi-purpose and surface cleaners. Now that things are returning to normal and we are socialising/going out more, we thought we’d share with you our favourite eco-friendly hand sanitiser alternatives.

Our Recommended Hand Sanitiser Alternatives

Flawless London Non Rinse Cleansing Hand Gel

Buy it here: 30ml £3.25, 60ml £5.75

Flawless is a cosmetics company that was founded with the aim of creating professional beauty products that are also vegan, affordable and eco-friendly. All packaging is plastic-free, in a recycled glass and aluminium jar.

Their Cleansing Hand Gel is non-rinse, so is perfect to pop in your bag and use whilst out and about. It comes in two sizes – either 30ml or 60ml, and is created using vegan friendly and cruelty free ingredients.

Promising not to leave a sticky residue, this eco-friendly hand sanitiser uses 99.8% Isopropyl Alcohol, with a final alcohol concentration of 75%. This is in line with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations. It’s full of essential oils, leaving a subtle scent from the addition of Rosemary, Lavender and Tea Tree. These not only smell great, but have natural antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities, and the addition of aloe vera soothes skin.

The product is also made in the UK, meaning it has less of a journey than products made abroad, adding to it’s eco-friendliness and reduction of CO2 emissions (if you’re based in the UK).

Purdy & Figg Original Citrus Hand Sanitiser Spray

Buy it here: 1 x 50ml £5.99, 3 x 50ml £16.99, 5 x 50ml £27.99

With a 70% concentration of pharmaceutical grade Isopropyl Alcohol, this product again meats the WHO standards and is clinically proven to kill 99.99% of bacteria. With the scent of pink grapefruit, orange and naiouli flower, this spray is 100% natural with pure essential oils.

A little bit more expensive than our other options, we think this would also make a brilliant gift due to the attractive packaging. The citrus oils are naturally anti-bacterial, with an energising fragrance. Not only does it kill bacteria, but will keep hands moisturised. The spray bottle means it is non-sticky and not too heavy on your hands, so is easier to apply and great for on the go.

Bio-D Sanitising Hand Wash

Geranium 500ml £3.50, Lime & Aloe Vera 500ml £3.50, Geranium refill 5l £16.50

A favourite of ours here at Magic Pixies, Bio-D do a sanitising, anti-bacterial hand wash – available in either a small bottle to pop on your sink or a big refill to fill up your own dispenser. Unlike the above sanitisers, this one is a wash so isn’t for on the go, but is still great to have in your home – keeping you and any guests safe from germs.

This product is gentle yet fast acting, killing 99.9% of harmful germs. Tested to BENSEN1276 standard, it is suitable for a range of uses from your home to work, or even a catering environment.

It is hypo allergenic, with ingredients naturally derived from raw materials and no petrochemicals, phosphates, preservatives, enzymes or synthetic perfumes. It is not only kind to skin, but also kind to the environment, cruelty free and vegan.

If you’re trying to be as eco-friendly as you can, purchase the larger re-fill bottle to reduce the amount of packaging and transport, as this will last you much longer!
